RIDDLE

The more you take, the more you leave behind.

What are they?

Guy calls and emails me yesterday about one of these junk deals…..you know…..old as dirt like the $1 chain letters.

You know the type I mean?  Like 10 or 20 bucks a month?  Geez…

Hasn’t figured out he’d need 24,000 people to make 8000 bucks.

Hasn’t figured out he’ll have attrition so make that 48,000.  Poor guy.

He’d never get the point of the riddle……today.  We hope for his tomorrow’s.

He just would not understand this how this “Once Upon a Time” story and the riddle both apply to our business…..yet.

Once Upon A Time.……there was a wise man who used to go to the ocean to do his writing.  He had a habit of walking on the beach before he began his work.

One day he was walking along the shore.  As he looked down the beach, he saw a human figure moving like a dancer.  He smiled to himself to think of someone who would dance to the day.  So he began to walk faster to catch up.

As he got closer, he saw that it was a young man and the young man wasn’t dancing, but instead he was reaching down to the sand, picking up something and very gently throwing it into the ocean.

As he got closer he called out, “Good morning!   What are you doing?”

The young man paused, looked up and replied  “Throwing starfish into the ocean.”

“I guess I should have asked, why are you throwing starfish into the ocean?”

“The sun is up, and the tide is going out.  And if I don’t throw them in, they’ll die.”

“But, young man, don’t you realize theat there are miles and miles of beach, and starfish all along it.  You can’t possibly make a difference.”

The young man listened politely.

Then bent down, picked up another starfish and threw it into the sea, past the breaking wave.

He smiled and said,  “It made a difference for that one.”

What my friend does not get it this:  It is all about service to others.

I love the guy.  I hope he gets it at some point.

We all need to realize that it is impossible to give away what we do not have.

We are helping people change their lives, they are not helping us change ours.  The change we seek in our lives is a by-product of helping others change their lives.

Change is not easy, even change we want to make.

Leader’s know this.  They are students of service, NOT of the ‘easy’ way.  They do the math.

They know takes work, not free enrolments….or those dinky little 20 dollar deals that promise ‘spill-over’ …..they get that offering people ‘spill-over’ to entice them to join is, well, lying.

Looked at a plan the other day for this guy.  63,000 people with ZERO attirtion to make 17,000 bucks.  He decided to do it anyway.

Leaders know you don’t build organizations for others, they help people become leaders.  One simply does not find them by telling people they are going to get 2 and the other 62,998 will magically show up.

Leaders stand for something.

There’s an old saying, “if we don’t stand for something, we’ll fall for anything.”

What does it really take?  Not looking for easy…..that is always the hardest way……

The easiest way to understanding we’re in the business of duplication and learning the 5 keys to accelerating duplication.  It really hinges on the 2nd key

Check out all 5 keys but it’s all about the second key.   What’s that?  Definite Major Purpose [DMP] of the people we work with.

Ask your people: Do you know your personal’s goals?  Their dreams?  And their personal’s?

We need to ask that of ourselves.  If we do know them and commit to other’s DMPs, we never bring a business to others that cannot meet their DMPs.

Real Leaders?

They learn what will make a difference in other people’s lives and hammer on that.  They master it.

RIDDLE

The more you take, the more you leave behind.

What are they?

Footprints.

Each interaction you have with another human being leaves a footprint because it creates a perception.

That perception becomes their reality.

Make your footprints on the souls of other’s a masterpiece today.

Serve the truth.  This takes work.

Serve their goals, not our own.

Find out what the music in their heart is and don’t let them die with that music unplayed.

  • Mark, this is SOOOOOOO true. We all have wants and desires, but Zig Ziglar was 100% correct when he said, “The best way to get what you want is to help enough other people get what they want.”

In network marketing, that means making each and every decision based on what is best (not necessarily what is easiest) for your team.

It reminds me of the Great Law of the Iroquois Confederacy, which says, “In our every deliberation, we must consider the impact of our decisions on the next seven generations.”

That starts by making an impact on one ‘starfish’ at a time 🙂
