FULL TIME OR PART-TIME?

Started working network marketing part-time while working full-time…. sacrificed fatigue and discouragement so I could go full-time in networking so I could go back to working networking marketing part-time.   How come this only makes sense to us?

WHEN IN DOUBT BLURT IT OUT?

Long time mantra has great intention but is poor instruction.  Yeah, yeah…..I know…..we are trying to encourage people to talk to people.  We don’t want them to say nothing because they will go home and beat themselves up.  When I took my foot off the ‘motivational-attitude’ pedal and focused on teaching them what to say so they can get a yes better than 90% of the time…..I was able to quickly go back to working networking part-time.

“When in doubt blurt it out” is just about the worst advice we can give someone.  It ranks right up there with “just talk to everyone.”

Can we build it that way?  Yup.  Just ask all those folks who have been doing network marketing for 10 years and are making 6 figures…….They’ll swear that is the way to go…..and they are still working full-time, putting in 10+ hours a day….Go figure.

WHAT WE LEAVE ON THE TABLE

The ‘just-talk-to-everyone-you-just-have-to-find-the-right-people’ crowd is not only working harder, not smarter the longer they are in, they actually believe they are being persistent and teaching it.

Old friend Tom Holden learned early on that it’s not what you are making when you are making six-figures, it’s what you are leaving on the table.  Tom’s been multiple six figures for better than 10 years.  Tom’s focus is on skills, not persistence.

We were at a Patriots game in Denver many years ago and decided we’d drop all the warm fuzzy motivational stuff for the next 90 days and focus on teaching people what goes through the prospects head.  We were in different organizations.  We both had kids and wanted to spend more time with them while noticing the more pep talks we gave the more time our business took.

Figured we compare notes in 90 days.  Took 2 weeks.  Evidence was overwhelming.

Once people know what to do, they do it.  No halftime speeches for either of us in over a decade.

Tom’s a part-time networker, full time husband and full time dad.  Not leaving any dough on the table.

Why?  No.  How?  Let go of ego.

Network marketers who think their motivational speeches and 1:1 heart-2-hearts are making difference are leaving lots and lots of money on the table.

Ego is expen$ive.

There’s a lot more money in teaching $kill$ than exercising ego.

KILLER LEAD GENERATING SYSTEMS

If their leads and marketing systems are so great why don’t these gurus just build a big business?  Would you want your upline putting you in competition with every other line in the company and with every company on the planet?

The only thing KILLER about these systems is charges on the credit cards in your organization…which ruptures your credibility…..and KILLS your group.

Old School?  Yes.  But not the way you may be thinking.  Two simple steps.

STEP 1 – Verify before you buy.

  1. How long has the person selling you been using it?  VERIFY by viewing THEIR ‘SYSTEM’ BACK OFFICE
  2. How many people have they sponsored into their PRIMARY program. VERIFY by viewing their PRIMARY’s back office.
  3. Don’t want to show you via ‘go-to-meeting’ or similar software?……WALK AWAY
  • Take trust out of the equation by verifying their claims.   Does not mean they are untrustworthy because you ask, if they say ‘no’ walk away.  If they tell you how well someone else is doing RUN.  Why?  They are changing the subject.  Does it work for the person you are talking to?

Looks good….got proof…..like what you see?

STEP 2 – The test before you testify

  1. Use it yourself without promoting it to your group.  Your credibility is EVERYTHING
  2. Test it out for 60 days before you testify

Is it old school to authenticate?  OK, call me old school.  Old friend Jimmy Bartlett, who built an organization that did over a million a month, chuckles at the ‘old school’ argument. He calls testing before testify good business sense.  It is a business, right?  Isn’t that what we tell prospects…..’it’s a business not a hobby?’

AGAINST THE INTERNET?

Hell no.  I just can’t imagine not reading ‘my’ Boston Globe Sunday mornings

Two weeks from today I be reading the Boston Globe Sports section in Kakaha, Kauai, Hawaii.  Online

On the lanai, overlooking the ocean with Kona coffee and my Sunday cigar.

OK, the internet has value.

And it has value in our industry.

Been able to stay connected to the brilliant Nancy Barr, multiple six figure earner while she travels through Paris, France.  Skype.  Nancy will be staying with us for a week in Kauai.

I am excited about picking what is left of each other’s brains for a week……2 children of the 60s.  Far out.

Like Tom, she does this part time.  She’s got it figured out.   Nancy does not to motivation.

Oh, did I mention she’s a former school teacher?  Go figure.

And, for the record, finding 10-20 people a day online who will call you instead of the other way around is pretty easy…..and you don’t need magic sites, system to brand yourself [what a joke] and a dozen + affiliate programs to do it…..and you don’t need google ad words, gurus, wizards or anything of the kind.

The truth is advertising online is a full time job…..the target keeps moving becasue google keeps changing the rules.  If you are doing that full-time and working a regular job…..when are you going to call prospects?  That is the traction point.  hmmmm….

First things first…..when people fret over their growth……simply ask ‘How many dials did you make today?’ Problem solved.

Screwing around all day online feels ‘smart’ and ‘sexy’….what a GREAT way to ‘feel’ like we are working…..and accomplishing nothing…..well, not nothing……..people are running up credit card bills……where’s the meat?

DOC HALADAY

Doc’s my favorite baseball player these days…..has been for 6 years.  Have him on all my fantasy teams.

Red Sox play Phillies tonight on National TV.  Love the Sox, love Doc.  Conflict.

Started thinking about the word conflict and reminded me of a story that changed my career.

Would it be OK if I shared that story with you? 🙂

ONCE UPON A TIME

…..as Cherokee legend has it….an old Grandfather said to his grandson, who came to him with anger at a friend who had done him an injustice, “Let me tell you a story.

I too, at times, have felt a great hate for those that have taken so much, with no sorrow for what they do.

But hate wears you down, and does not hurt your enemy. It is like taking poison and wishing your enemy would die. I have struggled with these feelings many times.” He continued, “It is as if there are two wolves inside me. One is good and does no harm. He lives in harmony with all around him, and does not take offense when no offense was intended. He will only fight when it is right to do so, and in the right way.

But the other wolf, ah! He is full of anger. The littlest thing will set him into a fit of temper. He fights everyone, all the time, for no reason. He cannot think because his anger and hate are so great. It is helpless anger, for his anger will change nothing.

Sometimes, it is hard to live with these two wolves inside me, for both of them try to dominate my spirit.”

The boy looked intently into his Grandfather’s eyes and asked, “Which one wins, Grandfather?”

The Grandfather smiled and quietly said, “The one I feed.”

How did this help?

Simple. Feed the dream with actions that get authentic results and fear staves to death.

TRUST

In Friday’s post we wrote about trust, Covey’s brilliant book, The Speed of Trust and how we had discovered applications to network marketing.

We decided, did we not that….

Trust really means confidence…..

and if they have confidence in you they will join

if they trust you they will execute the plan correctly…..they will accept constructive feedback

Is there a way to accelerate trust?  Yes.

I mentioned I had cut a CD about the applications of 13 ways to Speed up prospects and reps trusting us.

I promised an MP3 free version.

Here you go…..click here if you want learn how to accelerate the “Speed of Trust”  ~ again, it’s free…..no yukky squeeze pages, sales letters or any of that stuff….enjoy

Time for the Globe and my cigar.  Really looking forward to Doc versus Red Sox tonight.

Best part?  Monday.

We had good teachers and we work part-time.
